The Miami Heat put up eighty-six first-half scores versus the Grizzlies

The Heat earned a decisive 146-114 victory against the Grizzlies in their initial basketball game after guard Terry Rozier was detained for alleged illegal sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also arrested in connection with a sweeping FBI probe into sports betting. The two individuals deny the allegations.

However, the Heat were focused as they scored 86 first-half scores to be ahead of Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo led the way with 24 points and later said Terry had the support of the team.

"We support him. Full support," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is a person who is important to all of us. He's had a real positive impact on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through this."

The Trail Blazers also won their initial match after the arrests, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter taking over as interim coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and guiding the squad to a convincing 139-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and how he coached," Tiago said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' by Arrests

Speaking about the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

The commissioner also said an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets against the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated the matter and were open about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the league office can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
