Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months following leading insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds concluded through agreement in August.

Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past History Involving Bamford & Wilder

The pair had history before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”
