Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a new head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
