The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the government to pause asylum processing and cease issuing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
